Question Manual Gear changes

Should I be able to quickly change down or up more than one gear? i.e. I am approaching a junction and am slowing down quickly (braking) and want to fick down through the gears to aid braking and be in the right gear to accelerate again. If I flick the down shifter twice quickly it only recognised the first same if I do this upshifting i.e. it seems to only accept one change then I have to wait until the gearbox changes (which is slow IMO but thats another story).

Thanks for all your help

Come on guys, you all must know if you can do this in your cars. Am I expecting too much from a 100K car?

i can in my ML55, but im pretty sure there is some kind of saftey feature that wont allow you to change down too far if the engine isnt ready... like ur doing 120km breaking hard and trying to shift down to 2nd,,,, ull have to wait till the speed decreases to a safer shifting speed.... im only assuming tho... tell me what uve learned...
