Can you spin the wheels in the dry?
I'm new to owning an ML63 AMG and would like to know if you can spin the wheels on this heavy beast in the dry, either with ESP on or off, and in S mode or Manual in a straight line?

No... after numerous attempts, all I got was a very quick solid launch. No drama whatsoever. AWD keeps the rubber on the tires.

Didn't think you could. If I launch with 3/4 or full throttle it goes off the line well but at 3500rpm bogs completely, hesitates then messes with gear changes and continues. Very disconcerting and creates a very uncomfortable ride. Also means I cannot get a decent 0-60 or 1/4. Traction/ESP light sometimes comes on which made me think it was perhaps hitting the power band and causing wheel spin but I've never experienced this in any other heavy powerful 4x4.
Guess it's back to the dealer to be investigated unless you guys have any suggestions?

FIXED
UPDATE
Decided there was definately a fault with the trans so booked it in for MB to investigate. Took the service manager for a test drive and he agreed also that it was not right. MB had the car for 3 days, ordered a new torque converter etc etc and the cars now back FIXED and going like new
Basically for those interested it appears that something was out of alignment on the transmission and coupled with low oil in the box was causing it to be starved of oil on hard acceleration and the hydrolic's were failing.
