ML55 Engine failure

My 2001 ML55AMG dropped a valve, the piston collapsed and the con rod went through the bore.
As the previous owner did an oil and filter change himself Mercedes have no interest. Service records are unacceptable
Anyone know where I can get an engine?

Is this normal now for these motors? I question the quality!

I feel your pain Barty. I purchased my ML63 in Sept of 2006 and it has performed flawlessly for almost three years until about 6 months ago. While sitting at idle at my place of business, I was unloading something from the back of the truck when it suddenly stalled with a clunking sound. I thought it was strange but when I tried to restart it I became concerned when it wouldn't even turn over. The dealership sent a flatbed tow truck and hauled it away. I figured it was maybe a starter or an electronic glitch.

Imagine my surprise when they told me that the engine had totally siezed up! After a week or two of diagnosis they determined that a simple valve spring had broken allowing the valve to drop into the cylinder. From that point on the engine block was toast. Sound familiar?

What shocked me the most was the fact that the replacement engine invoiced out from Mercedes at about $68,000 complete! $68,000!!!! That didn't include labor! Even though the ML is assembled in the states, the engine had to come from Affalterbach which took about another month.

I hope you can find a used engine, because MB is outragously expensive for new.

Good luck!

if you want buy my truck and use it as a parts car... I'll let it go for $5k

Engine is strong, truck itself needs some repairs I just dont want to do... no one is driving it anymore otherwise

ML55 Motor

Problem is I live in New Zealand and need the motor takenout, crated and shipped.
Might be easier for me to buy a crated motor and cheaper than buying your complete truck!

Thanks anyway.
