I have a 2001 ML55 with 69,000 miles. This has been a Sunday and Holiday car and I have another vehicle for my daily commute. It's now time for a new car and I'm torn as to wether I should go ahead and trade in both vehicles for one new car or if I should keep the ML and continue to have another work vehicle. Does anyone have an opinion? Do you think this is worth keeping as a possible collector car someday or should I just finally let go? I change my mind on a daily basis!

When we got the R last month one option was to trade/sell the ML. However, it simply isn't worth enough to even consider trading in my mind. The value of these cars are quite low and to me it's worth more having a nice reliable four wheel drive to use in the winter or as a general beater. IMO the ML55 won't become a collector's vehicle because so many were made. For me, I'd just keep it and add another car since its value is low and I think you can get more out of it than what it's worth on paper.

I think I'll just try and sell it outright. I'm sure you're correct about the low trade in value, sadly. This one has not been in the snow so I probably better keep it that way. Anyone looking for one, feel free to contact me. I'll post some pics as soon as I get a day off.

DD for dear daughter or daily driver, ha!
Speaking of daughter, we traded her cute C230 kompressor coupe in for a Volkswagen GTI, mistake! My current master plan for my own daily driver changes by the minute but I'm thinking of a high gas mileage mini crossover such as the Mazda or Honda. Then when I sell the ML55, I'll get a newer (2008-2010 or so) ML350, something that rides much nicer than the AMG! No need for a race car anymore. I do not like the new 2012 ML body changes, maybe they'll grow on me. I see you're from Seattle area, Alice In Chains, my favorite band! Have a good day.

Hah when I was typing DD I was thinking I hope s/he knows what I mean. I'm glad you got it. Good luck with your search. I didn't realize the ML55 was so rough. I rode in one back in 01 but don't recall much from it. All I know is that my R rides very rough, maybe even more so than the CLK both of which are AMG variants. At least many of the newer ML/big cars from MB have air suspension so you can adjust the firmness on the fly (to a small degree at least).
