What are your suggestions to re bed the pads and rotors, the sounds of the brakes coming to a full stop whether it's quickly or slowly is unbearable.

Find a nice stretch of road (usually an empty feeder road with two underpass u-turns works well). Accelerate up to 80mph and smoothly but firmly press the breakes all the way down to the floor as hard as you can. You don't necessarily have to go to 0mph. You can do 80-20mph but super aggressively. Repeat that process like 20 times (just keep circling on the frontage road over and over again). After you have gotten the brakes nice and hot (you should be able to smell them), then let the brakes cool for about 30min. Repeat the process if necessary.

I have the same issue. Braking hard will not correct it. Cleaning it will not as well. Funny it didn’t start squealing until around 7-8,000 miles. Brakes are amazing just squeal really bad everyone looks at stop light .....sounds like you have no brakes

Is that a 2012/13 ML63 or something else?

Seems likes its the 2012 and 2013 ML 63 only, my 2007 ML 63 never squeaked.

3600 miles on the car already. It squealed since new but all noises have mostly gone away. Haven't heard anything in weeks... We shall see how things age... Love the truck!

Mine starting squealing at about 5000 miles. It's worse when it is cold and wet. Going in for Service A this month - we'll see what the dealer says.

Switch over to Stoptech pads, that should help out a lot. They also do a much better job of stopping the car and dust less.

1961 Mercedes-Benz 190SL and 2016 BMW X5M
As I mentioned in an earlier post in this thread, I have experienced intermittent squeaky brakes on my 2004 E55 AMG and my 2007 ML63 AMG.

I have just recently placed an order for a 2014 BMW M6 Coupe.
In the Bimmerfest blog that I also frequent, I have now learned that the 2012-Present 6-Series all have squeaky breaks with the M-Series even more so.

I guess part of the cursed baggage that comes along with our enjoyment of these wonderfully powerful, fast and somewhat limited production vehicles is the continued annoyance of perpetually squeaking brakes. The disk brake rotors on these vehicles are larger than on most other lower-performance vehicles so I assume that "size does matter...." as part of the cause of the noise.

It still can deflate a driver's ego and be rather embarrassing when you drive up to some friends of yours in your very nice car, that until one actually sees it, sounds like a real junker in its high pitched noisy approach. Once they have a chance to say hello as you exit your vehicle, you can expect some snide remark about your vehicle's brake noise.

I just try to remind myself that if this is all we have to complain about.... well.... Also, I realize that things could be a lot worse for all of us.....

BTW - The carbon brakes option that is available on some M-B AMG's and BMW M-Series vehicles are not always a cure to the "squeaks" and they really do not work their best or as well as the standard brakes until they have heated up, as they would be in a track scenario.

Maybe someday in the not-to-distant future the German Engineers at Mercedes-Benz and BMW will figure out a solution to this rather old and irksome problem.

Update: MB has agreed to buy the ML back outright. However... I think I'll see if the weather warm up improves the noise at all. If it does then I'll just throw some aftermarket pads on it and put this grievance to rest. The fact that MB is even willing to buy it back makes me feel better about this situation but in the end I prefer resolution.

Wow, I can't believe Mercedes would buy back the truck. That's good news.

I would have thought Mercedes would have come up with a solution by now.

The squealing stopped by itself about a week before my scheduled service visit. Had them check the brakes but they "could not reproduce customer complaint."

It's been better so we'll see.

FYI: There is a recall out on front struts - can cause the Airmatic suspension to fail - I had this happen over the summer and they replaced the part (left). With the recall, they now replaced the other one (right).

Update: My SA called and said AMG has a new set of pads they would like to install to help with the squealing. Takes until the end of the month to receive them so we'll see what happens. Fingers crossed!

Did you contact Mercedes Corporate? or tell your dealership, when MB wanted to buyback the car?

MBUSA corporate.

It's simple... If they can't fix it... They have no case.

Contacted Mercedes Canada and they also informed me that a new set of pads are on the way to my dealer. No idea on the timeline but I am also keeping my fingers crossed. It's getting tougher to drive my ML 63 and not use the brakes...

Just change the pads to something aftermarket. Carbotech 1251 pads are the most quiet and dust free pads on the market, but they are a tad pricey.

Thanks. I may try that out if the Mercedes solution doesn't work. Right now, this is a free fix so I will give it a try first.

New brake pads installed today. They arrived about a day after I called MB Canada and the dealer was able to get me in the next day. Drove all day and only had a very small squeal near the end of the day.

The change in noise from my old pads is night and day. The work order stated, "Install SOP Brake Pads". Replace front brake pads as per TIPPS GI42.10-P-055351.

Hopefully this is a more permanent fix and it won't start squealing on Monday.

Hey drtdvl,

I'm also in Alberta, Edmonton more specifically. I have had a terrible squealing problem that occurs anytime the outside temperature dips to freezing and worse below. I first documented my issues with Weber Mercedes last year. I bought the 2012 ML63 new in July 2012 from them.

I just returned from Weber Mercedes communicating your experience. The SA was anything but cooperative. He said he is not aware of any updates and would need me to schedule an appointment to assess the squealing, try Mercedes recommended fixes, then if not solved, make measurements and send my vin to them to see if there is an update. He would not contact Mercedes Canada until then!

So... What did you do, other than contact Mercedes Canada directly? How did your dealer become involved in the process? Although a bit of an inconvenience, I may switch to David Morris Mercedes.

Thanks in advance.

I contacted Mercedes Canada who let me know there was a solution available. MB Canada then told me to contact the Service Manager and let them know to contact MB Technical Support and they would provide a solution. Hope this helps. The noise was so bad my staff could hear me arriving while they were inside the building.
