Moron move, am I hosed?

I know better, I really do but today I was being lazy and now might have a big problem on my hands. So I had gotten a pop up reminder message saying "check oil at next fill up", twice today. So I checked the dipstick and it was in-fact a little low. Went to add some oil and in my "laziness" didn't totally remove the metallic layer they put on the top of the oil bottle to ensure it is sealed. Half way through the pour I see something metallic going right down into the oil opening with the oil. Moron (me)!

So I stop and look down and can see the piece laying on the ledge between those cams or whatever the sprocket looking metal is where you fill the oil. I try with a flash light and some tweezers to reach it but it slips down and falls out of sight below that lip. No idea where that leads and what damage I may do if I start it. I would think that it would just go down to the oil pan and hang out there until the next oil change, that the filter would block it from going back into the engine to cause damage but I don't know.

Anyone know if i'm totally hosed or have any recommendations? Other than taking off the AMG cover, intake, and prying into this area I don't know what else I could do, nor do I know if it will f' up anything if I start it.

Note to self--don't be a lazy moron next time....pissed

Given how thin the foil is on the top of a container I don't believe it will do any damage and in all probability will be picked up in the filter. You don't say how big the piece was but unless it's the size of a small dog (kidding of course but you know what I mean) I believe it will get trapped by the filter.

That's what your filter is for and you'll be fine

And that's not really a moron move, just small amount of bad luck ... I read some real moron moves on this forum and caused some real moron moves myself!

PC of mind
I would have your local indie mech insert a bore-o-scope into the vc to see where it ended up.

How big was the PC?

I'm not quite sure how a bigger PC will make it to the pan. I'm not sure those oil page ways are that big.

It was probably about 1-1.5 inches wide.

one of the techs I know said I should be ok, that it is most likely down in the pan and will get caught by the oil strainer.

Thinking I might take it tomorrow and get the oil changed on it and see if it shows up in that.
