2008 ML63 AMG
2008 ML63 160k miles, Keep or Junk

Hey Everyone!

I’m new to join this forum, though have found a lot of helpful info on the threads for years.

I am having a hard time deciding if I should put any more money into my beloved ML63, or send her to the junk yard.....she has a lot of issues, and the repairs will cost more than it’s even worth. Money aside, it kills to to think of a vehicle like this as being junkyard worthy.

Here is a list of known concerns and major problems:

Headbolts have never been replaced, slight ticking when oil gets low. It burns oil just like my last 08ml63, and my 08 clk63. Usually a quart low in between oil changes.

There is a parasitic battery drain, it has killed two new batteries and is currently sitting in my driveway. Hasn’t been driven in 4 months.

Check Engine light always on, have spent THOUSANDS to fix this issue, at 2 MB dealers, a reputable AMG repair specialist.
3 fuel pump replacements since 2017
Fuel gauge is stuck at 1/2 after last repair at a local garage. Opted to not have them do anything else, pretty sure they did some electrical damage by jump starting it with a jump box AND minivan. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Needs suspension work on right front, I’m guessing a control arm or another work part. Still driveablw but makes a loud clicking noise when Cold and slowly driving over bumps.

Windshield wipers do not work. Tested all fuses and replaced 2 relays. Guessing it’s the motor.

Hail damage, $2500 estimate from body shop, $1000 insurance deductible. (This reeeeaaalllly hurt my heart)

Needs Brakes and Rotors all around

Could use 4 tires, again.

After the hail damage was added to the list I planned on keeping it for a Farm/Towing vehicle to pull my horse trailer and airstream.
This factored in the cost of brakes, tires, suspension repairs etc.

Now as she sits in my driveway I don’t think this is a great idea, though this truck has been such a dream to tow with! It is such a beast!
Towed my 1974 30ft Airstream without the slightest hesitation or trouble.

Good things:
Transmission is perfect
Interior is perfect
Have always timely performed routine maintenance

Thoughts by anyone? Maybe there is an AMG lover out there that could salvage the good things from this truck? Any ideas on what I should sell it for? I’m not willing to send it back to the dealer ($$$$$), though if anyone thinks I should consider keeping it, there is a master MB tech that is willing to do side work in his garage. All the current repairs needed are beyond my ability.

If you read through all this... thank you! I realize it’s a lot! It’s just decision time and I’m looking for some opinions from folks who appreciate these trucks in the same way I do.

Any advice is much appreciated!!!

~Jamie

This place is a joke.
It would be a good project for an experienced tech to buy. I'd try and sell it for $4k-5k or so. Post some pictures.
