Chain rattle on hot starts after recent drive.

I have a decent chain rattle, 2008 ml63 with 110k miles. What's interesting is it's not common on a cold start but happens a decent amount when I drive, stop at a store for a short trip and start it back up when it's hot still. It's only a second or two but it's annoying. I have an oil leak also, either the timing cover, oil cooler lines, or that oil check valve seal under the timing cover. Could that check valve cause the inconsistent chain rattle do to oil pressure issues? No codes, runs great, I think its got updated head bolts but not sure. Going to pull valve cover soon and inspect. Just gathering parts for a weekend tear down once skiing season is over.

Usually the M156 does not suffer from timing chain issues. Did you make sure the rattle on a hot start is not the camshaft adjusters?
Also for the oil leak, suggest you replace the gasket for the oil filter housing and the gasket for the crankshaft pulley.

Good luck

Now that I think about how it sounds it could be the camshaft adjusters. It's not consistent at all. Kind of random. I just got the car so I'm still becoming familiar with the motor. The oil leak will be fixed soon lol. It's on the list. Shes been neglected but I've always wanted an ml63 and can do most of my own work so I figured why not. How would I figure out if it's the camshaft adjusters?

If it sounds like this, it is the adjusters:

You can also try to move the adjusters using a wrench for testing:
