WL163 ML55 and W210 E55
W163 2001 ML55 Unused Electrical 3 Pin Socket At Front RHS of Engine

Found this, is it for an unused accessory, eg was the harness the same as supercharged models and this was for the clutch? (this is NA M113).

Or am I missing out on some useful function?

The wires are color coded in what might be a unique way with color and stripe.

Maybe you can see wire color codes

OK, I worked out it is for the MAP sensor, now I need to work out if I am supposed to have a MAP sensor or not, seems hard to know for sure.

I have to think that if you had a necessary sensor completely unconnected, that you would have a Check Engine Light lit up… 🤔

maybe, I understand with the right tools you can configure the MCU not to look for it, and then it runs an assumed value, but some aspects of performance and economy might suffer

I bought the car from a tech who worked at an indie service shop and I have found a few strange things so anything is possible

it has a ME2.8 and I can find things on the internet like

For 2000-2002 Mercedes ML55 AMG MAP Sensor SMP

so I am suspicuious maybe it should have one

Also, maybe I am wrong, but I am not convinced mercedes is in the habit of delivering vehicles just leaving unused sensor connectors hanging and open circuit, I would expect some kind of recepticle to plug into, possibly with a terminating device - floating inputs back to the ECU could cause a variety of problems, and the socket is not far off being able to be caught up between the serpentine belt and a pulley at worst case.
