2006 ML 500 rear driver door won’t open

2006 ML 500 rear driver door won’t open
So I just got this car and it runs like a dream. The only thing is that the rear driver side door doesn’t open. I guess I should’ve checked but it is what it is. Before I end up screwing something up which I almost did. How can I get this door open . I’m thinking some plastic part inside the door skim might’ve snapped or that long metal chord might have come loose . I tried to unbolt the door from the pillar in between the front and back but it’s hooked tight but the door handle hinge . I think my next bet would be to unhinged the door skin from the inside, but I don’t know if I can access it without having the door open . I’m thinking if I could just get a little access from the top, I can get in there somehow and remedy the situation.
