tailight water leak causing short & fire

Has anyone ever heard or experienced water leaking through tailights and rear vent boxes?
My ML completely shut down on the freeway and a fire broke out in rear door, window motor shorted and melted the assy. Not a lot works now rear hatch, door locks etc.
My rear trunk compartment was filled with water from the rain including all important electrical was submerged.
Online I found evidence of recalls for this my my local Mercedes dealer knows nothing about it and shows no recall for it.
