ML63 Engine cut off, won’t start and then a loud whirring noise
My uncle borrowed me his 2008 ML63 and everything was fine when I drove it home (about 20km away on a high way at 80km/h). I parked it, and wanted to take it to get the tyre pressure checked and as I was driving, the engine light came on for a brief moment and the engine cut off. I thought it was the battery because it wouldn’t switch on. So my uncle came to jumpstarted it and managed to turn it on. But the engine had this high whirring nose, similar to a lawn mower. High pitched and not like the deep V8. The car would slowly hum down and cut off after. Has one of the cylinders failed? Has any rods been bent? Thanks

Get a code reader, and post the codes. If there are any weird noises I would not run it, not even for short time. You can scan the car while the ignition is ON (engine off). If the CEL was flashing, this is a sign the engine was misfiring. Many things can cause this, a simple bad sensor to a mechanical failure.
