I installed OEM Hitch however dealer stated I needed one of two wiring harness. They couldn’t tell me witch one so I bought both.

is there a way of knowing which harness is the correct one without trying both? I know where the harness mounts to the hitch and where it comes into the car but where does it plug in at.
I installed a hitch on my ML63 the other day, was going to do the factory harness but also wasn't sure which I needed, the local dealer is not a help as they offered to sell me a kit with the hitch (telling me the hitch from the junkyard will not work) etc etc. I don't need all the features that you get with the factory harness (only towing my jet skis) so I bought a universal wiring kit, spliced it in and good to go!
