driveshaft flanges/CV joints
driveshaft flanges/CV joints
anyone have issues with these? I noticed a noise that sounds like something is loose and it is vibrating, mainly on deceleration. I looked at both shafts and the front flange on the rear one the bolts were loose, I mean finger loose. I tightened them up and checked the other end of it, all good. I checked both ends of the front shaft and all are tight. It didn't make any difference as the sounds is still there.
My mechanic friend told me sometimes the grease in the flange dries up and can cause this type of sound. It's been pretty consistent, meaning it has been doing it all the time. Any thoughts?

just as a followup, it was the front flex joint on the rear driveshaft causing the noise/vibration. The tell-tale sigh was the ring of grease where it had let go from the joint, it made a ring on the underside of car. Unfortunately, it is not a serviceable part and you have to buy the entire driveshaft assembly, but at least you get a new carrier bearing with it. Let me know if any questions. Part # is A166-410-05-01 if it helps someone.
