How to remove bulb lens in ceiling for LEDs, 2nd seat row?
Please don't tease me but in my W164, I was able to pop off the lens cover from the light that is in the ceiling, 2nd row, with a small flat-head screwdriver, in order to change the bulbs to LEDs. This is sometimes referred to as a map light that is integrated into the handle fixture right above the rear passenger doors.
However, in the 2012 W166 model, this doesn't appear to be the case since I cannot pop off this lens in a similar fashion as the W164. Any ideas?
Plus, in the new model, I noticed there is a light in the center of the tailgate(when open) to illuminate the ground and for visual safety. I cannot pop this lens cover off either!
Again, your suggestions are appreciated like usual.
UPDATE: I contacted the service dept at a MB dealer and they did note that the W166 is a lot more difficult/intricate than its predecessor in regards to changing the aforementioned bulb. According to the service dept., I would have to schedule an appointment for them to do this change for me IF I replaced the bulb with a MB certified bulb. They won't touch it with any aftermarket items. Argghhh!!!!!

The service tech will not share this info with me...
I realize it's protocol for dealerships to only have MB authorized items installed on their vehicles but he/she won't even walk me through the steps on how to remove this interior light above the rear passenger doors in order for me to install my LEDs.
Any info would be appreciated. PLEASE!

Hi Waykool,
I have smd led bulbs that I used in my W164 that are surprisingly brighter than OEM with a more whiter color temperature: around 6000k. When I open the tailgate, I am hoping to have my leds illuminate the area with a brighter coverage area.
Thanks.
Thanks.
