CPO Fraud?
I was taking a look at my paperwork from the ML350 I bought last week and the dealer reported the maintenance done as part of the CPO - but they haven't done anything. Instead, they just wrote me an IOU for all of those things. What the heck?! If I have a CPO claim and MB looks into this - would they even honor the CPO?

CPO is just extended warranty.
If you need the maintenance done, why are you driving the car? Take it back and have the maintenance they owe you done.

The car becomes certified when the dealer transmits to Mercedes the proper paperwork and agrees to pay the certification fee. Should the service never be done, the car is still certified and Mercedes will stand behind it. The problem would be between Mercedes and their dealership, not you. The dealer, I can imagine, was just trying to get the car delivered. With the average dealer value in the tens of millions of dollars, they are not committing fraud to sell one used car.

It does appear that the supposed inspection is more of a marketing thing and they just fix things as they appear. The downside is that you have to go through the actual process/pain of making a service appointment to get things handled. The upside is that you do have a warranty. Do your research and know what you are looking for. So far my dealership has presented me a "certified" car with bad front brakes and a vibration in the drive train. They also tried to deliver the second car to me with an oil leak that they just called run off from an oil change (somehow oil can drip in an upward direction in an ML engine compartment).

When I do eventually accept delivery of my car I think I'm going to need to go through everything that I can on my own (air filter, cabin air filter, ect) and bring it to a mechanic with the Mercedes certification checklist for the rest. No confidence left at this point.

Does anybody know what kind of warranty CPO ML has after delivery? I mean something identical "new vehicle warranty". If nothing like that present - we should check everything on delivery, are we?

CPO has limitations on trim and wear items that the factory warranty doesn't, but it's pretty good. Not as comprehensive as MB Extended warranty, but it's cheaper and still way better than nothing, covers almost any component failure.

Well, based on my experience, I can state that CPO is ballooned up and overestimated. When we buy it, we are "protected" only within certain limits, far from new car warranty. However they give you a strong impression that yo are OK as a new car buyer. Something like - nothing to worry about, you have the "CPO"! And then goes a long list of visits to dealership and long list of replaced items within only 2-3 months. And whats no good - some not covered under warranty....Its better to be aware of it before you decide to buy MB CPO.

Week 3 of this car - I'm significantly more comfortable with it after digging into the engine bay and spending an hour under it. Complex - yes - but straight forward work with lots of room to work on it myself. The dealer acknowledged the deficit and they're doing the next maintenance (5 year) on them. I'll be doing absolutely all of the scheduled maintenance on it myself after that.

Doesn't include things like belts and brakes. I wouldn't expect them to cover those but I didn't care either since I can do my own and I enjoy working on cars.
