LED reverse lamps

I saw a thread on it before, but was anyone successful in changing the rear reverse to the LED's without affecting the voltage? or has everyone just stuck with the incandescent?

seems like most people just seek with the incandescent bulbs, i mean what i thought is to just buy the LED bulb that fits back there but probably i would need something to prevent the voltage problem.

Voltage has nothing to do with it!
it's load, or watts that the system looks for and produces an error if there's no load or less than expected load (bulb out) to put more load on it cheapest way is to parallel a resistor over the led. (aka warning canceller) less the resistance the bigger the load (0 ohm would be a short...)

Many bulbs out there that have this built in.

Both the ML and GLE are sub standard when it comes to reverse light output. save your money and save up for next car. no way any LED is going to fix it.

I pick up our GL this weekend and intend to solve this problem. I have a likely solution planned out. I will keep you all posted.

what would you recommend? Im looking to change the reverse lamps from incandescent to LED

for the post above this:

the LED's make a HUGE difference when backing up, the only problem is when you wanna use the backup camera on the comand screen its too bright, when you back up at night time with the incandescent the display is good enough to back up at night time

I'll ask my LED guy. He got me bulbs for my CL and we did everything on the car, it has no light out errors. We had to try 3 different ones for the city lights in the main headlight housing to find one that the car liked, same with the fog lights, but there is always one that works.

Got these for my GL and no codes thrown. Light output is great but the camera still is horrible with them so win and lose. Least no one can say they didn't know I was backing up.

These bulbs didn't throw an error.

Look from front seat, note there is a street light between those bushed behind the car.

Look from front seat with bulbs. Clearly brighter top/bottom on the bushes.

Still no help on the reverse cam, but need to check the setting to ensure brightness is turned up. Car in shop so will have to do later, as I wasn't aware of that setting in the gear icon.

Crappy night pic from the rear, very bright, so if anything least they know I'm backing up.

it looks good from the back but i just wonder why it doesnt show on the SVC (Surround camera) when you shift into reverse, thats very odd

Agreed. When I get the car back from service I plan to play with it a bit more and see what I might can do to see better with the cam and LEDs working properly together. The cam sensor is surely small and needs all the light it can get I would assume but maybe too much is a bad thing.

Honestly I got the car home that night we bought it and swapped the LEDs right in. I know I looked at it but don't recall how it looked. Took car back to dealer next day to fix 2 issues I found and they have the car until end of next week I hope. Car is drivebale but said would take a week to get in shop as they were busy. I left it in case they get an early spot as we don't need the car at home right now. Once I get it back it will check the brightness settings on the screen and then swap back the bulbs to stock to get some good comparison pics. Swapping doesn't take long so no biggie.

Keep you all posted
