I have owned several MB. Currently on number 8 which is the best one ever.
I bought a 2008 E 350 4matic recently after trading it in on my 2006 e 350.
The 2006 was outstanding as far as performance and especially mileage. I had gotten as high as 29 mpg on nice flat highways with cruise control. The 4matic does not get as high but I did hit 24.1 the other day. I have just finished putting nitrogen in my tires and did notice about 1 mpg difference for the better.
