M-B 2003 CLK 500
New Member Quirky SRS problem

I am a new member, hello to all.

I have a 2003 CLK 500. The driver's seat belt retractor broke. I replaced it with the exact part number but continue to get the SRS light and a message that restraint systems needs servicing (the same message I got initially when the retractor spring broke).
I was told that if you replace the seat belt unit the same part the SRS fault should clear itself. It has not.
I tried to clear the fault with a Snap-On diagnostic system but keep getting faults, SRS light, message.
My question is: Do I need to use the M-B Star system to clear the fault codes, because the Snap-On system can't, or is there an issue with the part I replaced, the wiring or the restraint system control unit?

Thank you in advance. Alfred
