Car Won't Start - Ignition Key Message "Take Your Key From Ignition"

Car Won't Start - Ignition Key Message "Take Your Key From Ignition"
I drove my car and parked and locked it while I went to a location. When I came back it would not start. I thought it must be the battery. AAA tried a jump and it did not start. They ran a test and said I need a new battery which they installed. They were careful to install instruments in the battery area and inside the car before changing the battery. They said it has something to do with the memory if they did not do that and it would take time to reset if that happened.
Well the car still did not start. There was an Ignition Key Message "Take Your Key From Ignition". I called for my spare key to try it. I still got the message. I called the dealer and was told a procedure about holding the key so many seconds and pushing the button 3 times. That did not work.
The dealer is saying they need to run a diagnostic that might take a few days.
Checking the internet I see others have had this issue.
Can any one let me know about their experience and resolution to this problem?
