S350L Central Locking Pump and Gear Changing
Hello,
I own a 2004 S350L. I bought it from Singapore and now in Tanzania, East Africa. The assistance provided by Merc agents is very poor.
I have 2 problems
1. Central Locking Pump - The unit worked for few months since importing the car. then it stopped and was asked to replace it. I replaced with a original pump from UK and it burnt out while on trial. so I ordered a 2nd pump from UK. This pump worked for a month and then I noticed the car does not lock, boot does not open. I have to use the key to manually lock and open door and boot. I took it a known specialist as the Merc agents were useless. he looked and tested and found the following:
That the pump was running all the time. it wont stop. He explained that the actuator was having a fault
next he opened the pump and showed me that one of the plastic valves had melted at the bottom and was leaking air. I have attached 3 photos to see. the interesting thing is the previous pump had a same problem. there was no charring on the rubber pipes that go over it. so, why did this happen was his dilemma. he said he checked on blogs and found nothing and so asked me to take the car while he keeps looking for an answer. he disconnected the pump completely so it does not run and burn out like the last new pump.
2. Gear Changing - on cold start, the moment I speed up, the gear lock up and stays locked. it wont change. but when it hits around 80 degrees centigrade, I need to switch off the car for 30 seconds and restart and it works fine. as it nothing happened. this is a daily affair. the merc agent here says I need to change the whole gearbox.
Please, can someone help me on this. if you need any video or photos, I can take and post them. I really like the car and am stuck now, so am looking for answers here
