new guy in FL

Hey all, just moved down to FL from NH. Lifetime wrencher. I've never had a Mercedes other than one I've bought to sell as Ive always been a muscle car kind of guy. However, now that Im a little older and with a family (2 kids and wife) Im finding that a exceptionally nice 4 door car that has some real muscle would be nice.

I'm on here to do some research on S55 AMGs and E55 MGs (2005 ish years) as thats the kind of thing Im looking for. I thought about a s65 amg as well but that is a little too complicated/expensive for me to work on myself I think.

Any guidance on where to look/read up on stuff would be greatly appreciated.

I currently have a crew cab ram 1500 4wd (2014), and a 1973 340 duster

Good delema

In my opinion I would stay away from the S class if I was you. Again it's my opinion. I'm a auto wholesaler out of Connecticut not to far from your old stomp in ground in New Hampshire. I've owned numerous mercedes over the years and have to say the E55 by far was the most fun out of the 4-door models. I haven't had luck with any of the S-classes I've owned. All the ones I had always seemed to have small problems with them which turned into huge ones. I had an 01 S500 just this past January. I took it in on trade from the local funeral home. The car had 32k original miles on it but had tail light problems that I couldn't believe cost so much to fix that I just sold the car as is. Again this is my opinion and just going from past experiences. In my divorce I had to hand my wife the keys to a E55 AMG. I teared up the day I handed it over. That car was a lot of fun. It wasn't to small like CLK55 and it wasn't too big like the S55. It was just right! So with that said an E55 in my opinion is the better of the two.

Thank you for the input. i was considering the S55 amg based on larger interior space from what I understand, and a lil more hp thanks to a larger engine bay.

Ouch!! Sorry to hear about losing your E55 to the ex, thats horrendous! Although I would have given anything to be away from my ex wife lol.

Interior Size

Well I guess family comfort comes first. The E is definately smaller inside than the S class. Plus I've seen the S come in the Kompressor package which is insane with the amount of HP it produces. I never saw the E with the same package. Do they make it bi-turbo?

yea, they have a kompressor e55 amg. I've looked at several online. It has about 30hp less than the S55 amg kompressor due to the restrictions of the smaller engine bay. it seems its only 200 ish lbs lighter though so you dont gain much considering the size difference.

Im SURE either e55 or s55 kompressors will be a blast. especially after a pulley/tune.

Info

Maybe you would know? I have a 02 ML55. I'm having a real difficult time finding any aftermarket performance parts for it. Everyone either has things listed for the 430 and the 550 nothing for the 55. Any input would be appreciated.

The E55k and the S55k have the same engine and basically put out the same power to the tire. However, the E55 is the faster of them all. I should know, I have one. Lol.

Either way, good luck with which ever you get. Where are you located in FL?

I figured the lighter weight one would be a little faster. Probably puts it down better even with slightly less hp (factory vs factory).

Im in oldsmar (next to tampa).

Factory vs factory the both dyno the same. Those are just marketing numbers to justify the S being more expensive. however the E has the least amount of wind resistance over them all

There are a few good members in the Tampa area that own some fast E55s
