A168 gearbox

Hi everyone
I am new to this site
I have just bought a 2003 A168 automatic with a gearbox fault.
I sent gearbox ecu to ecu testing & it came back beyond repair

I then bought a second hand ecu when fitted it now displays the F light on dash & wont change gear ?
does this ecu have to be programed to the car by MB or is there another problem with the ecu

any help much appreciated

Thanks
Lee

Welcome to MBWorld! This is the new members introduction section of the forum. I'm not really sure, but typically ECU's have immobilizers that are married to the specific car they're out of. Some types of vehicles you're able to do an immobilizer defeat in order to allow the ECU to work with the new car. I'm not sure if this is possible for MB's though as they're very complex. Might have better luck getting your question answered by posting in this section of the forum.
