I just became a Benz owner, with the purchase of a 2005 S500 4Matic.
I have a question.
My vehicle's manufacture date is 12/04, and its VIN code is WDBNG84. . .
The engine bay Vehicle Emission Control Information tag says it's engine is Test Group 5MBXV05.0U2A, with displacement 4966cc.
When I run my VIN through any of the various VIN decoders, it comes back as an S430, which it clearly is not.
When my insurance company plugged the VIN into their system, it came back as a 2004. (It's clearly a 2005 model.)
Is it normal for the next year's model to begin manufacture before the end of the previous calendar year, and should I be concerned that the VIN decoders return that it's an S430 with 4.3L engine, or is this normal?
