Faulty thermostat
I am a newby. Sorry if I am posting to the wrong forum.
I have 2006 Mercedes C230 Sport which I purchased new (In better times).
The car of course is out of warranty and I do most repairs and maintenance myself.
The car is in good running condition. My current problem is the coolant thermostat.
My car has been has always been running at 80 C. Now the temperature is fluctuating over very short periods of time between 80 & 90 C. The problem causes the engine cooling fan to come on at unexpected times. I had similar problem with another car. Replaced the thermostat and solved the problem.
I am planning on replacing the thermostat, but I am confused. My car has always run at 80 degrees C., but the only replacement thermostats that I can find are labeled 100 C. Please explain. I would appreciate any help or insight for this problem.
