Hi folks! New 2003 SL-55 owner checking in. I acquired the car from a friend by trading him a New Holland tractor for it a couple of months back. It's been a blast so far! The car has some issues, most of which I have fixed. The ABC system needed a new rear accumulator and a pulsation damper, which took all of an afternoon to swap in. It also ate an idler pulley a few days ago, and the roof hydraulics are acting up. That said, it's quite an upgrade from my previous vehicle ('06 Mini S JCW)! Looking forward to future improvements on this platform, it seems quite promising!
I have not seen any symptoms of pump failure, but I'll put on a Johnson CM30 if it does go. I suspect the first owner swapped it out, hence its continued survival.
I know for a fact that it has:
-New harmonic balancer
-Entirely new ABC system (new pump, refurb'd valve blocks, all four struts, new lines in the engine bay)
-New ABC accumulators and pulsation damper
-New belt tensioner
-New belts
-New A/C compressor
-New alternator
-New SC clutch and pulley
-New Mandrus Millenium wheels/ new tires (terrible tires though...)
-New amplifier (IDK why, the factory one is fine....)
-Xmission flush (2k mi ago)
-New transmission mount
Sadly, the damn top still doesn't go, and doesn't even have the decency to throw any DTCs! I suspect the hydraulic pump is not outputting anything (even though I hear it run), as it will not operate the roll bar....
