Hello and Looking for a 2014 E550 4Matic

Hello,

Just here reading all I can on MB's, specifically the 2014 E550's. Last purchase was a 94 Land Cruiser we bought 2 years ago and that turned out really well - 230K, triple locking diffs, loaded & everything works. It needed a little TLC as do most 23 year old vehicles, but the list has been short. It was purchased from an enthusiast on a FJ forum. My last german car was about 4 years ago a base model 1987 Porsche 944. It had some gremlins in the wiring and some body issues but was pretty straight driveline-wise. I got tired of fixing things like window tracks and switches and sold it on CL to someone who I think was looking for a track day beater. But I do miss that one - I took it to Skyline Drive and had a great weekend running around the mountains.

So, the wife is looking for a Blue E Class... I refined that for her to mean a 2014 E550 4matic in some shade of blue. I've been watching videos and reading reviews - I'm starting to think that the 2104 and up E550s are pretty isolated from some of the really negative online comments/reviews/issues. I'm mostly looking for how to buy one, what to look out for, what to expect etc. Would also like some real world feedback as these cars approach their 4/5 year birthdays and whatever their issues may be.

Our newest car is a 2009 Malibu... While I can't say I really like it- I can't say I really hate it either as it has been pretty damn reliable for 110K so far. It does all of the things it is supposed to do despite my wife's heavy foot and mostly impatient driving style. She once got a speeding ticket in the Land Cruiser... I don't let her drive that as much anymore. Our other car is a 97 subaru outback wagon w / 266K on it - that is more of a science experiment than anything... But surprisingly runs great.

In the garage there is a 65 Mustang Coupe with a 200 CID Six in it, which unfortunately has become more of a long term project. The drivetrain is perfect - it is just undergoing some quarter panel replacement as my time warrants... It has some suspension upgrades, engine upgrades, etc. I also run the FordSix Performance Forum at fordsix.com.

Thanks!

Perry

Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, BMW, MINI and more!
Welcome to MBWorld, Perry. Thanks for the great introduction. Got any pictures of the Mustang? Love the Land Cruisers, things last forever. A 944, very nice! Be sure to pop into the E-Class section of the forum to get users input on what you're looking for. I am here if you ever need anything if/when you do pick up an MB. Enjoy your time here.

Went with a CLS550

Oh I am well acquainted with Mr. Pelican from having the 944 lol! This past weekend I took a test drive in 2014 E550 4matic from NY/NJ - the price was fair, but for what I would need to do to get it to where I wanted it too much work. If the price started with a 2, it may have been a different story. There were just too many unknowns for me to jump into it. Northern car, lots of salt, wheels were curb rashed, salt damage under the clear coat... lower valance/splitter chewed up... I made my list, then figured there's got to be something in my neighborhood with none of these problems.

Fast forward to this past Monday... Looking at local inventory, I broadened the search to include CPO'd CLS550's without 4matic. Went to the dealer and got a CPO 2014 CLS550.
