HELP WITH 1991 300E 4MATIC
I am a mechanic and have worked on cars since I was 14. Not doing for a living any more but like many types of cars. I acquired this pretty clean '91 Mercedes 300E 4Matic (used with 155,000 miles) for my real estate business but it's been sitting, broke down for a few years and I want to get it running again.
The problem is (beside the 4Matic not working) is either the air conditioner compressor of alternator needed replacement, can't remember which, but when I went to undo the serpentine belt, the adjustment rod was already broken. I have lost some of the parts that I removed years ago and I'm pretty sure there was a small aluminum housing that was somehow attached to the tensioner system. I took that unit apart and it had rubber pieces inside which were deteriorated. I believe the unit acts as some sort of shock absorber but I can't find any pictures or what it is called.
Any help or actual pictures would be appreciated of this unit which I no longer have. I would like to see exactly where and how it is located on the car. I just love the looks of this little sedan and since I like older classic cars, I want it running again. I'm also restoring my '84 Lincoln Towncar which I used for real estate before I found the 300E.
