Poor Fuel Economy 350SD
Hi, My friend owns the vehicle, I am just helping him diagnose what might be the problem. There are no visible fuel leaks since we replaced some fuel hoses in September. He estimates about 8 MPG. The engine is not smoking. He feels the injectors might need cleaning, as it was running a little rough and then improved after he added injector cleaning. Are injectors a likely suspect? We pulled 2 injectors to replace the O rings in Sept. Can we clean the injectors if that might be the problem? I have a heated ultrasonic cleaner that I bought for my airplane fuel injectors, but they are of a very simple design which is constantly spraying fuel into the cylinder rather than being switched on & off.
He has owned MB in the past and feels the vehicle is running well except for the fuel economy. He bought the car from his aunt is the original owner.It is not a high mileage car in spite of the age. She had everything serviced on schedule. It looks to me like the injector pump was replaced. I have never owned a MB.
