My c270 diesel engine Benz cranks intermittently

Can someone advice me on what to do.
as I was about to drive to the nearest gas station to fill up my tank as I was already on a reserve tank, without knowing that the diesel has finished completely, the engine stopped and cuts off gas. I took a gallon and bought 10 litres, I poured in and tried to start, it cranks and wouldn't start. I had ran out of diesel like 5 times before and what I always do to start it is to spray fuel on the inlet where smoke comes out and it will crank and start with a heavy black smoke and a very bad knocking sound and the sound would stabilize as it idle. I used the same method to start it this time, it started and idled for 3 minutes and it turned off itself and has not been able to start again since then. I brought a mechanic to check it out, he did and he serviced the five injection nozzles, after that, he bleed it and it's been cranking but wouldn't start. Now, it has developed intermittent cranking. I called electrician who used code reader to read the fault and what it read was: 2 rail injection system. The battery finally died and u brought another battery, still yet to start. Can someone please advice me on what to look up to. Thanks

Hi you probably had this fixed by now , but if not. here are a few things to check
  1. check whether fuel is reaching the injectors (loosen one of the injector pipe and crank )
  2. check crank sensor (connect a multi-meter to one of the inject wire and crank, voltage should flutuate between 5 and 3volts. )
  3. check camshaft sensor (check whether there's a 12v , 5V and a flutuating 5v going through the wires )
  4. check your fuel rail pressure sensor

Thanks for your reply and assistance. I abandoned the car at the indie workshop since then. The heater plug signal light when ignition is turned on usually last for about 4 to 5 seconds before it would turn off but now, it doesn't last for 2 seconds which shows that the heater plug is not hearing properly. When a star machine was used to diagnose the vehicle, the result was cylinder 1, 2 and 3 open circuit. Could that had affected the heater plug signal light? What measure should be taken to resolve the starting issue?
