C300 Oil Capacity Issue (puzzler)
I recently changed my oil for the first time and am having an issue with oil capacity (2011, C300, eng 272). Here are the facts (and a listing of my errors):
1. I had the oil changed at Mobile One lube center 10k miles ago but did not verify the dip stick oil level (error 1, always verify)
2. Extracted 8.5 quarts utilizing the Barivian Oil extractor https://www.bavauto.com/bmw-oil-extractor-b8800001 . Awesome product!
3. The oil quantity extracted matched the MB oil capacity as stated in the MB manual. Everything looks great!
4. Changed oil filter (cartridge oil filter has almost no oil in it as it is a vertically mounted filter) and added 8.5 quarts and verified oil level on dip stick which indicated it was above the max level (error 2, should have added 7 quarts and checked level, verifying level after adding more oil).
5. Ended up extracting about 1.5 quarts (now have a total of 7 quarts added after oil extraction) to get the oil below max level (glad I had the oil extractor). I have checked the oil level multiple times after running the car and I am now good to go.
So here are my thoughts and concerns...
Is the MB manual incorrect and the true capacity is about 7 quarts?
If so, was I running at 1.5 quarts above maximum.
Did I damage the engine running at this level for 10K? Engine sounds and runs great.
