S320 Owner for 13 years - Recent AC issues
Yes, I've owned my car for over 13 years now (it was one year old when I bought it). New man on this block though.
Despite loving the car for most of this time (I've had 3 Porsches and a few Beemers over the years too), it has recently fallen out of favour a bit.
My main problems concern the AC, which even though my dealer wasn't asked to touch, did so, to tell me it needed re-gassing and rendered the AC inoperative. This I might add was in the middle of the biggest heat wave Britain has had since 1976!
Anyway, I got it re-gassed, it worked for a while, then stopped again. I replaced the regulator, which seemed to fix things, then, it stopped again on a long drive in sweltering heat! I have gone through all the diagnostics I could find (thanks to the members on here that posted the codes for us), and as of just now, my car is showing no AC errors. Of course, it is working perfectly right now.
I am just concerned that when I need it most, ie, long journey in high temps, it will stop again. The fan just stops, so I can't even get air from the outside to keep me cool.
I am on the point of changing the fan, but these are very expensive (even with third party vendors) and I am just worried that this may not fix this intermittent issue.
Any advice would be appreciated; I have searched tinterweb (and this forum) for ages now and although I have learned a lot, I still haven't found a definitive answer.
Observations:
AC works great when I set off.
Randomly (but when it is working its hardest), the fans just stops working.
Sometimes taking a bend quickly or hitting a pothole, the fan packs up and may or may not kick back in again later.
I feel a dodgy connection the most likely culprit, but where? I sprayed contact cleaner on the connections to the blower and the regulator.
Thanks again.
