2000 C230 Kompressor trunk

2000 C230 Kompressor
Unhappy 2000 C230 Kompressor trunk
I have an issue with the trunk on my C230. I had the battery out and a good intentioned soul closed the trunk while it was out. The manual key will not open the trunk. I need to get into the trunk to reinstall the battery. Is there a way to get in or open the lid? I want to avoid drilling holes if possible. From what I have read the trunk has to be accessible in order to remove the back seat. Any help would be appreciated.
