W163 Replace Springs or just shocks?

W163 Replace Springs or just shocks?
Hello all,
I am an original owner of a 2002 ML320.
I began working on it after all these years because I love the car and found I can do much of the maintenance with Help from you folks.
Question is; all original shocks and springs, should I replace only the shocks or the springs too?
I can manage the rear springs and shocks since they are sold assembled but in the front can I get away with just replacing the OEM with Bilstein?
