2004 CL55 AMG
2004 CL 55 AMG 15k kms!!
Just to quickly introduce myself.
Power Engineer by trade, Mobile auto technician. Specializing in BMW & Mercedes-Benz.
Sometimes i get an opportunity to resurrect a classic
I recently acquired in my opinion a very rare opportunity.
2004 Mercedes-Benz CL55 AMG W/ 15,684 kilometers,
All original one owner vehicle.
From what i understand, the gentleman's wife put on most of those kms along with some bumps and bruises so its time to let the vehicle go.
I'm not sure how to describe that this vehicle still retains its new car sent..
So far what I've done to the vehicle.
. Removed trunk lining and checked all electrical components for moisture, greased fittings, and reinstalled.
. Charged battery for 24hrs and installed quick release for battery tender.
. Shorten springs on wire retractor at trunk open - this gives some slack to the wire loom to the trunk lid.
. Reinforce trunk release actuator puck
. Engine Oil and Filter Change
. Engine Air Filter - Vac out the air box
. Replace alarm siren w/ battery
. New 20" rims and tires because the original tires are expired / past shelf life
. Treated all rubber seals with aerospace conditioner
Things that have been done before i got it.
. Brake fluid flush
. Coolant flush
. Hydraulic fluid service
. New battery
MB world has been a great tool for me as an upcoming technician and so thought i would turn to it once again with my dilemma.
The Cl class is a very special vehicle and one of my favorite all time vehicles to own so i feel quite fortunate to be able to share this possibly because it might be the only one in North America with this mileage.
The issue i am facing is that the vehicle is in near mint condition, all stock and everything is sealed tight from factory. Not really a dilemma for most people but hear me out. Yes beautiful car, all creature comforts for the time. But if you want to stay young, you must stay with the time.
Here's what i'm thinking,
Update the head unit, two options. 10.1" Xtrons Android or 8" in-dash Xtrons Android
From the 2 i have installed, the best way to accomplish this is by removing all original audio components and installing new. Maybe using factory speakers.
Performance List - Long tube headers, 83mm supercharger pulley, ECU tune, additional heat exchanger.
Slightly louder then stock with secondary cats and and x-pipe installed, plus you do gain fuel mileage.
My questions to you ladies and gentleman,
1). Am I performing sacrilege by taking a collector all original vehicle and IMO updating it?
2). Should i just update the interior head unit and leave out the performance modifications?
3). Leave it stock? "Preserve its factory condition"
4). Or do i just sell it because i spent a small fortune acquiring it?
Lets hear your thoughts and opinions
Thanks,
