Dashboard Whirring Sound on Electrical Contact
I have a 2016 C300 that has less than 13,000 miles....lease vehicle...due to be turned in March 2019. In the past week, it has begun making a 1-2 second loud whirring clicking sound, definitely inside the dash close to the steering column, whenever ANY electrical initiation is made after getting in the car and again when turning it off. If I get in and ONLY push the seat adjustment button on the door, it sounds off! This happens before attempting to start...or touching ANY OTHER button, the noise initiates. If I press the starter button first, the same thing. When I turn the car off, it does it for 1-2 seconds and stops. Never happens once car is started or while driving. If I had to describe the sound better, it sounds like somebody is twirling one of those paint stripper thingies with the fingers (metal spines) on it that you connect to a power drill and the fingers are hitting up against something in the dash. Does not affect car operation in any way! I keep reading about some part that affects air flow to the vents but there doesn't seem to be any problem there. And as I said, the motor doesn't have to be running....in fact it never does it while the motor is running, until I turn the car OFF.
