I bought this c230 the other week. I've never owned a Mercedes before or worked on one for that matter. This one is in fairly good shape and appears to be well maintained. The only thing I dont like is after inspection I realized that it has an aftermarket security system wired into it. I'd like to get that removed In Hope's that it will fix my issue of not getting signal to the rear lights. All of the lights in the rear are non operational with the exception of the 3rd brake light. After having purchased the car for $700 I'm not concerned with having to stick some money into. Has anybody tried to diagnose an issue like this? If so what are so things you looked for?

Welcome! Nice looking C230. Are the bulbs OEM M-B parts? Some aftermarket bulbs cause problems in modern electrical systems. Do any lights work in any mode or scenario?

Where is the alarm hardware installed? Start looking in that location.

I have removed the aftermarket electronics. It turned out to be a tracking device. After having some time to look into the lights it would seem there is something wrong with one of the modules. The bulbs do not appear to be oem so I will look into that before making assumptions. I can get the running lights to work in the rear with the car running but they only turn on. They dont turn off with the headlight switch but will turn off when the car is turned back off. Also when the running lights are on I loose the turn signals up front. I'll continue to look into the issue as I ran out of time today.
