1972 250 C
I recently acquired a 1972 250 C, a vehicle which I owned in the 70's.
I sold the car to a friend, who drove it occasionally for several years, eventually he parked it in his garage in the late 1990's, where it sat until recently.
The car appears complete and the interior is in remarkably good condition.
The brakes do not work, and the engine has not turned in 20+ years.
There significant rust damage on the driver's side floor pan and rocker panel.
There is a decision to be made regarding restoration and I would appreciate your input.

That's a really nice sedan. I would check the fuel system is clean, gas tank, lines and filter. Brake assemblies tend to rot because the brake fluid eats through your wheel cylinders and o-rings on your master cylinder which could lead to brake failure. Check out your engine and body mounts(old rubber), any worn out bushings on your suspension. Find a safe way to clean your engine from old sludge or varnish build up. There are some really good engine solvents to do that. If you could check your electrical connections for corrosion, especially your ground connects. You may see a clean wire but inside the insulation might be corroded. I've restored a lot of older cars and had cars with hardly any miles on them but just from letting them sit causes a lot of dirt build-up where you least expect it.

thank you for your experienced advice. Does the rusted floor pan and rocker panel concern you?

Rust is a touchy subject. First you would have to consider the value of the car. Is the repair going to cost you more than the car is worth? Is this car the one you will keep for a long period of time...just to justify the expense of the repair. Its a difficult process to repair rust to do it correctly. I have done my own rust repairs on base line 1967 Rambler Rebel 550

and replaced 2/3 of the floor just so the seats wouldn't fall to ground. But the car was important to me to complete the restoration because the car was special to me. Fortunately I went trade school to learn how to weld because I install, repair and service elevators(ThyssenKrupp). I've replaced floors and trunk panels in a 68' Camaro that turned out really nice.
