I’m new to Mercedes-Benz. My new-to-me vehicle is a 2015 GL350 Bluetec. It replaces a 2007 Honda Odyssey. My other vehicles are a 2006 New Beetle TDI and a 2013 Audi A3 TDI. Evidently, I am fond of diesels. I advocate that torque is for driving and horsepower is for racing—and the more torque the better. Only my lawn mower uses gasoline now.
The Mercedes GL350 purchase had not been on my radar. The Audi Q5 or Q7, Honda Pilot, and Acura MDX were at the top of my list. But I rode in a distant friends GL550 back in February. He had many accolades and I loved the features that seem to be model years ahead of other makes. Plus, I discovered that a used out-of-warranty Mercedes is a bargain. I purchased through Carvana, a really neat experience. My GL350 has services records that show dealer service from the selling dealer every 5,000 miles or less since new from the selling dealer.
I am a do-it-yourself-er—multiple timing belts, shocks, struts, brakes, and of course oil changes. Both TDIs are tuned by KermaTDI and I plan to eventually tune my GL350.
I have and use the Ross-Tech VCDS diagnostic tool for the TDIs and I plan to purchase a diagnostic tool for the Mercedes when I get an understanding of terms that appear to be used interchangeably on the forum (Star, Xentry, DAS, SDS). I have more questions but will try to find an appropriate thread.
Welcome to MBWorld Mike! Thanks for the intro and the pics. Your GL looks great. A diesel lawn mower, hmmmm. Here in Australia, most M-Bs are half price after about 4 yo, plus you get a 2 year warranty on a CPO. Not sure if that’s the same in the US. Enjoy your new toy
