I’m recently having problems with my 2016 GLE 350d. Occasionally (once a week or so) as I’m putting it into Drive it automatically goes into Neutral after about half an hour to an hour of trying to put it into drive it finally goes back into drive. Took it into the dealership and they have never heard of this problem before and couldn’t find the problem.
I took my vehicle to the dealership in for a recall fix and this problem happened shortly after my visit. Has anyone heard of this problem before?
Welcome! Please post a photo of the GLE. It's a good idea to post the question in the W166 section where owners will see it. The situation you describe does not come up often. It could be you need a new direct select module in the steering column, or a software fix. The dealer should be able to scan and diagnose.

Thanks for your reply, I uploaded a photo. The dealer unfortunately could not find the problem when they did the diagnosis.
If your issue was like mine where it went into N from in the middle of driving (conductor plate and plug). Maybe it's the override manual switch is defected.
As for the recall I posted it in another forum under map update
Copy from my post Also There was a recall that I never knew about it. Rs Steering Gear part number 166-460-18-01 Preservative wax part number 000-986-72-70-10 Wheel alignment and Tire depth inspection was also done.
