I really didn't mean to do it. Honestly. I own three vintage BMW's. I love them. All of them. Then the hammer dropped...Today, I was at a public auction. They were offering a 1989 Mercedes 560SL convertible with 77K miles. Burgundy with tan interior. Real nice looking car.
The car was to be sold at the end of the regular auction. i didn't want to sit through 500 lots of furniture and other items. So I left an absentee bid for $6000. There was no way in God's green Earth that bid would win. No way. Right?
When I got home and checked my email, there was a notice from the auction company. I won the car. Yup. Mine. All mine. With tax and all, I am in it for 7.2K. It runs, drives, looks great with a far amount of recent service from a MB dealer.
I know NOTHING about older Mercedes! I'm thinking it can't be that much different than my BMW's, right?
Any tips, tricks, or other items of interest I should know about? Are the 560SL's good cars? I plan on getting an inspection done at a MB dealership and then doing any work needed myself.
