Just bought my dream E55 AMG
After racing C-Sedan, GT5, S2000 in the 80s. And after thrashing a friends beater Corvette at Willow, Button, Laguna, and Chuckwalla recently, until it caught fire and my friend moved back to Watkins Glen. I figured the only way I would get back on track was to "track-day" my road car and do most of the work myself. (Needless to say that won't include changing the fossilized O-Ring in the oil pump I've heard so much about.)
So I'm saying goodbye to 15 years with my 2001 E430 and hello to a 2005 E55 AMG. Only problem is, it's so nice in its pewter-silver livery, that I'm going to have to buy a bra and dedicated track wheels, and drive only 8/10th to keep it that way. All mods including the LSD will be removable to keep it as mint as possible.
But I will say I do need to get rid of that message that won't shut up. "Active Hdlmps Display malfunction". It's not like its even the head light malfunctioning... just the display, I presume. I read all the threads I could find, about the little motor that moves the mirror, and rebuilding of the little arm that's connected to it, oven baking the lenses, and that a used headlamp won't plug and play.
I don't really care if the headlights steer or not. I just want that message gone. I'll cut wires if I have to. Other than black tape on the speedo, can anyone help?
