Recently purchased my first Merc - 2005 W203 C180 Kompressor - for a whooping $1600 with registration!! The car was 100% stock and owned by a family who simply didn't have the time or necessity to have the car looked over and fixed. So.. The reason it was so cheap for a clean vehicle is that it had started to play up and slip out of get (auto). So i show up to the home, expecting to need to replace the trans or something major, and take it for a test drive. Sure enough it shudders under accel and slips into what i could imagine to be 5th gear and sometimes neutral while accelerating or heavy turning, round-about & U turns. My partner looking at me "do not buy this POS".. I buy it after negotiating down to $1600 haha!
Now, the car is clean, and so comfortable (coming from Japanese performance cars, coil-overs, stiff engine mounts, vibrations, loud exhausts etc) and i couldn't resist the temptation to try and fix it. I've had similar issues before an knew exactly what the issue was.. NO TRANS FLUID! The owner garage had a large sheet of card board laid down so that was the first give away. Given they're sealed for life units the 722.6 doesn't have a dipstick.. so the "mobile mechanic" who couldnt diagnose the issue and suggested a new trans obviously couldn't find or check the fluid level either..
So long story short.. I buy it.. Drive to the nearest Supercheap auto.. Dump 4 litres of trans fluid into the box.. reset the TCU and BOOM shes good to go!! One happy Mercedes Benz owner and proceed to enjoy my 2 hour drive back home
Since then I've modified the car quite considerably and now getting things sorted in order to twin charge the car.. I'll be sure to document the progress and even have a youtube channel for updates.
