Near Future Diesel Owner Here
I have adored the diesel Mercedes since my family had one in the 80s and am (finally) in the process of buying one for myself. I hate car shopping and love the interior of 80s MB diesels so I want it to be my daily driver for the next 20+ years, unless I come across something I like more (or diesel gets taxed to $10/gallon).
Being an audiophile I'm also going to be doing some upgrading to the pathetic stock system that shipped with it. Within the next year I'll be getting a Nakamichi head unit (maybe cassette, maybe a radio/preamp with RCA input), McIntosh power amp, Critical Mass speakers and appropriate cables for everything. I can purchase Critical Mass at reasonable prices and I've yet to hear anything at any price point that touches their sound quality (CM amps are very okay and overpriced though, can't recommend them). I'd be open to keeping everything vintage if I come across decent McIntosh car speakers.
I'm also going to consider upgrades that increase mpg or horsepower, but don't know where to start with that. If I decide to get CM subwoofers in the future I'll probably need a better alternator to power everything, but one project at a time.
