2020 GLS450 48V Battery Overheating in Arizona Summer

Hello I own 2020 GLS450. Recently as the temperature soared in Summer in Arizona, I got Check Engine Light. First the dealer could not duplicate the issue but when it appeared again they were forced to look into it more deeply and they told me that I will have to wait for a software update from MB. the 48 Volt battery is overheating beyond the temp settings it was designed for and MB has to provide a software update.
My question is - why were the original specs not designed for hot climates like Arizona if MB is selling these cars in Ariozna. We did not make record temps recently so they should have that information.
Also I have noticed that the Black Mouldings on Mercedes lose their color in Arizona because again they were not designed for hot climates but for more European colder climates.
MB is assembling cars in USA and selling in Hot climates but it is pathetic that they do not test their materials and parts for hot climate before releasing their vehicles for public sale.

I'm also in AZ so I know about the heat. Actually, MB does test their vehicles in Death Valley. I've found that for vehicles in general in AZ it's important to put protectant on all such black trim pieces in order to protect against the damaging sun that Arizona gets .It certainly does sound like your vehicle does have an issue as the symptoms you're describing are pretty unusual even for the AZ heat. . Maybe you might try another MB dealer to get a 2nd opinion since your vehicle is in warranty?

Thanks for your suggestion, Can you please share what kind of protectant you use for the plastic trim to avoid fading in Arizona heat.

There are a number of good protectants on the market that I bounce between for my non MB daily driver that I think would work for you. You might need to apply the protectant every few months because of the intense AZ. sun in order to keep the trim looking good.. I have my MB professionally detailed. Are you in Tucson or the Phoenix area? The Phoenix area has a number of good MB dealerships that should be able to solve your other issue..

BTW, I would also suggest you post your questions in the section of this forum that's for owners of your specific MB. The owners there will own the same MB you do and they'll also be more than glad to help you. You can find your section by scrolling down the main forum page.
