MBUX detailed reference or answers
MB doesn't even try to document MBUX beyond tutorials on how to do basic things. But that leaves some fairly ordinary questions that aren't answered in any document or youtube video I can find.
The whole area of "Contacts" is a minefield of incomprehensible and undocumented rules (examples below). Is there any way to get such questions answered? Any secrets for getting to a knowledgeable MB support person on their "Mercedes Me Connect" help? I've seen some of these questions posted here with no good answers.
1. What are the rules for formatting a contact's address on the phone or in a vcf file so that the navigation system can use it? Many of my contacts get the "please enter the missing info" response, but I can often see no difference in formatting between addresses that get that response and those that don't.
2. Once the correct address has been found, how do you replace the address in the contact with the corrected one? Often no other information even needs to be entered — it will propose the correct address as the first or even only search result, but won't navigate directly to it. Other times all the info is actually in the search bar but I can't tell what it wants. Clearing the search and manually re-typing things in the search bar then works, but really?
3. What's the difference between a "manual synchronize" operation and an "import" operation for contacts?
4. More generally, I'd like to understand how to manage contacts stored in the car — I don't want all 500 contacts downloaded from my phone. How can I download specific ones?
5. What's the relationship between phone favorites, navigation favorites, and Contacts entries? After trying to get contacts with working navigation addresses, I now seem to have a navigation favorite that doesn't correspond to any Contact, for instance.
6. If I do accidentally sync my phone contacts, how do I get rid of them without deleting the manually entered or imported (stored in the vehicle) contacts?
And the "linguatronic" documentation just boils down to "say something and see what happens".
7. How do I activate Siri via bluetooth connection? In my 2016 C300, a long press on the steering wheel voice button worked as long as the phone was unlocked or Siri was enabled on the lock screen. In MBUX, the long press is ignored and I can only activate Siri if the phone is plugged in and CarPlay is active.
Other than the lack of software documentation, I love my 2021 E450 4Matic coupe :-)
