Is 2012 E63 AMG a good choice?
It has the Premium 2 pkg (P02), Driver Assistance pkg (997), pano roof and parktronic. I test drove the car and it seems to be in great condition (car kept in CA since 2012). The dealer even showed me that they've done a detailed inspection and is even providing an extended warranty for an extra cost of 48months/48kmi (whichever comes first) which basically covers all of the mechanicals. The M157 engine is generally considered reliable from what I have gathered. I'm based in CA and have a tiny 4mi roundtrip commute from work (at least for the next year).
Now, I am a huge car guy (even work as an automotive engineer) which is why I absolutely do not want to go for 'boring' cars like a Camry/Accord when I can get a flagship AMG with more features for cheaper than a new Accord Touring. This will be my first benz/german performance car so I'm a little on the fence about it. This will be my daily driver but also want to use the car for local track days in my area. More 'sensible' options would include either the 2018 BMW 530e M-sport or the 2017 BMW 540i M-sport. I rather enjoy working on my own cars and doing maintenance on my own (would likely order parts online myself) as long as I don't need very specialized tools/equipment etc. for which I would try finding local shops (really don't want to get skinned at a dealer). I aim to barely drive 5k-7k miles annually, mostly on road trips.
Now that the background is out of the way, my question is, exactly how terrible is the idea of going for this car especially as compared to the two alternates I mentioned (note both the BMW's are about 15%-20% more expensive with all three cars incl. extended warranties)?
Thank you.
