Power steering fluid leak
My power steering pump went out in my 2008 ML350, had it replaced and the power steering came back but literally days later that winding sound started and I was confused because when the pump was changed it was also flushed and filled with the Pentosin Hydraulic fluid suggested. I’ve been dealing with this for about month, about every once a week I’ll just refill the steering fluid and the winding noise goes away. I know this isn’t right but I’m actually going to take to the shop but want to make sure they don’t say it’s the rack and pinion leaking when it could be just the reservoir or a missing/damaged O RING. I’ve never lost the power steering since pump was replaced but didn’t have the reservoir replaced at the time. The leak is getting worse and coming from somewhere underneath the car. So my question is: is there away to tell where the leak is coming from? And would the only places causing this leak be the O ring, reservoir or worst case scenario the rack and pinion needing replaced?

Welcome! Please post a photo of the ML. The p/s reservoir is a known failure point on this vehicle and could be the source of the leak. Try reading and posting in the W164 section.
