2014 S Class...anyone
Anyone made the decision to go for the new 2014 S class.
When I got my 2012 last week I also got put #1 on the list for the 2014.

That's an easy "promise" to make, but those go to whoever comes up with the money after the production slots are finalized. Hardly a contest for everyone to run to the dealers and sign up for cars with unknown looks and delivery dates. We don't even know if W222 is going to be a MY2014 yet.

My guy said I could put a token deposit on the new S and build it at the appropriate time. As long as it was a reasonable configuration I wasn’t even obligated to take delivery.

The W222 will be out later next year and we already have our allocation methodology so its coming and we know how we will be allocated cars...the initial builds are always done by MBUSA and the 2nd wave gives the dealers a little more control.

Based on my last 6 purchases through Mercedes Benz as I always order the vehicle before the chassis avails, you can be on the list to be one of the first to configure your vehicle on MBUSA's Star Net database but not necessarily be the first to receive due to options chosen. The database is based on dealer allocation so basically they only reconfigure cars that are allocated to them. Initially you will see most of the cars allocated to be black, silver, and white, so the longer you wait to choose options, the longer you will have to wait to receive vehicle as they can't stop production line to wait for your decision especially on color. Outside of that they have to trade from another dealer.
One example is on my MY 2007 S550 I was able to place deposit and get on the list on 9/2005, then was able to start speccing the car with basics on 11/2005, and finally receive delivery on 3/2006 to be the first specced S550 for MB of San Francisco. All was traceable via MBUSA's Star Net. After the initial basic options are chosen, you will be called by dealer as other available options avail, you will notice that depending on the options delivery date can change dramatically especially if supplier is short on material. The only hard and risky part was choosing the color as name of color does not actually reflect actual color to be expected. Also choosing options as descriptions where not complete.
My salesperson notified me last month that it will be about this time that deposits will start to be accepted.
The great part is supposedly deposit is fully refundable if you chose to not accept car at time of delivery as mentioned above but have not tested myself.

The bottom line is that you can get on the list once the car actually exists. At this point, it has not even been announced. We don't know what it looks like, what options it will have, and when exactly it will come out. Dealers do want your money as soon as possible, so they will gladly accept a "deposit" on something that is still vaporware.

I think we've discussed these to the bone on this forum as well. Some renderings from these are plain ugly, some are not bad. I hope the W222 does get introduced this September in Paris, so we can put the rumors to rest.

Duh...but I wouldn't be surprised if the final car looked something like this. There really wouldn't be much time to do anything else. On the other hand, I can't believe Mercedes won't do a great job on the new S...but you never know.

That's my worst fear, but I hope for the best. They can cover the actual controls with something like this on a mule, but the production car could still look completely different inside.
