How sad. Is it a S350 Bluetec? Fire seems to be the most intense towards the rear of the hood and melted onto the engine.

Damn was Elon Musk involved in this design?

On a serious note, glad they were okay, hopefully this isnt a start of a larger issue yet to be found.

That's horrid .It must be something overheated as well .I would say may be a faulty aftermarket stuff caused this havoc but judging by the age of the car owner that must be a remote idea

Looks like it's a Diesel. Since Diesel fuel isn't flammable like gas, I am thinking this was electrical. Hope MB gets them a new, upgraded model for free ASAP.

Um, unlike this unfortunate S550, you do realize the Model S cars that caught fire did not spontaneously combust from within the vehicle, right?

The Model S fires todate are a result of the car impacting road debris and they now have a no cost titanium shield that they will install on existing cars. To see the titanium shield in action, check out the video on the following page. It shows the car being driven over concrete and steel.

Car's catch fire. The important thing are the people in them and I'm glad in all cases no one in the car was injured. You can always replace a car.
